The World Telecommunication Development Conference

From 18 to 27 March 2002 the World Telecommunication Development Conference was held in Istanbul city. World Telecommunication Development Conferences held once in 4 years determine objectives and policy of world telecommunication development equilibration. Both developed and developing countries use new information technologies in order to increase quality and effectiveness in such fields as education, public health, industrial production, finances, banking and trading. One of the key objectives put by the Conference was policy definition for overcoming the increasing gap between developed and developing countries in the field of access to new technologies and information. Delegation representatives from different countries spoke at plenipotentiary conferences and expressed their ideas on this key objective. After three days of plenipotentiary meetings the delegates continued to work at work committees and work groups where during the discussions recommendations on telecommunication development policy schedule were drawn up. AzEuroTel JV delegation also participated at the Conference activity. Delegation’s members actively worked at the committee and work groups meetings, conducted a number of fruitful negotiations with representatives of different telecommunication companies, as well as met with BDT Director (ITU-D) Mr. Hamadoune Toure invited to participate at the regular 11-th Panel Meeting of Committee of Operators RRS that will be held at AzEuroTel in December 2002.
